An Introspective View of Patterns and Textures
I am an artist in Nashville, TN. I started making art in 1997 at Austin Peay State University. My work has always been expressive in some way. I started out making multimedia work using photographs or drawings, and I would layer them onto surfaces such as wood or canvas. I would cut through the surface using an Exacto knife and continue making marks with paint, watercolor, oil pastels, basically whatever I could get my hands on.
I decided to keep the tools of this body of work simple: acrylic paint on canvas. The images themselves are far from simple, and they have really sharpened my painting abilities over time.
I have become increasingly interested in juxtaposing patterns and textures of my everyday life. I can get lost in a design of a yoga mat over the linoleum of my kitchen floor, or a favorite ring over a tie dyed skirt, or a tiny me against a massive brick wall. The possibilities are endless. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I continue to enjoy painting these images.
